Irfan Pathan, a former Indian cricketer, has expressed his disapproval regarding the inappropriate gestures made by Pakistani players Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan during a recent match. Despite India securing victories against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, first in the group stage and then in the Super Fours, it appears that the Pakistani team is more focused on creating disturbances rather than improving their game.
The match was marked by several confrontations, particularly involving Indian players Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, who clashed with Pakistan's Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf. Controversy erupted when Sahibzada Farhan mimicked shooting a gun with his bat, while Haris Rauf made gestures resembling a falling plane and a 6-0 sign.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Pathan responded sharply, emphasizing that Indian players prefer to let their performance speak for itself. He stated, “Indian cricketers remain unfazed. We don’t engage in verbal exchanges; we focus on our game. However, if provoked, we will respond, whether it’s against Australia or Pakistan. Our response will come through our performance.”
Pathan further remarked, “We don’t dwell on Pakistan’s losses, such as their defeat to Zimbabwe in the 2022 World Cup. It’s not something we discuss publicly because it doesn’t concern us. We analyze their game thoroughly but remain indifferent to their outcomes.”
He added, “If you provoke us, we will not let it slide. That’s our principle. The actions during the match, especially Farhan’s celebration, are insensitive given the current state of relations between our countries.”
Pathan concluded by expressing disappointment in Haris Rauf's behavior, stating, “I had thought he was a decent person after our conversation in Australia, but his actions yesterday were uncalled for. Their behavior reflects their upbringing and the environment they come from.”
